S Reshad Jones Scouting Report

April 17, 2010 By: DraftParty Category: College Football

Reshad Jones 6′1 214 Georgia Junior

vs. LSU 2009

Highlights: 6  Lowlights: 1

Game Analysis: Jones was only thrown at once in this game, a long completion to WR Brandon LaFell, and though he failed to make that play, he made a ton of plays in the run game. Jones is a great tackler and had to chase down LSU’s playmaking backup QB a few times. He is also a tenacious hitter and showed that ability when he picked up the QB and drove him into the ground causing a fumble. WR’s are going to think twice running across the field in front of him because he is a knock-out hitter.

vs. South Carolina 2009

Highlights: 3

Game Analysis: Jones had another quiet, low impact game but the important thing is that he was not in on any lowlights so his down the field coverage must have been solid all night. We know he is a hard hitter (just look at Week 1’s highlights), but he also showed impressive speed flying in to make a tackle on a run play and flying in to disrupt the QB and make him throw it away. He might play too soft in coverage however (watch the last play in his highlight, a strong throw would get a TD in my opinion).

vs Oklahoma State 2009

Highlights: 2

Game Analysis: Jones had a very quiet game but he actually was a part of 2 huge plays that were both bad for Georgia (yet I counted both of them as highlights…). He showed good ability to go up and break up a long ball early in the game but on that play, he dropped an easy pick. Had he made the INT, the early momentum would have continued to go Georgia’s way. Late in the game, with the score 17-10 Ok. St, Jones delivered a wicked hit on a WR but was mistakenly flagged on the play for a personal foul. The 15 yard penalty allowed a short TD for Ok. St. to seal the game. It is hard to fault him for that play since it was the refs that were wrong. Make sure you check out the hit on youtube.

CB Patrick Robinson Scouting Report

April 17, 2010 By: DraftParty Category: College Football

Patrick Robinson 5′11 190 Florida State Senior

vs UNC 2009

Highlights: 6  Lowlights: 2

Game Analysis:

- Willing to help in run support/ good tackler

- Got called for holding a WR when he bit on a pump fake and had to hold to prevent a TD

- Great pass break up in the endzone on a fade route during which he ran with the WR stride for stride

- Almost had an interception on a crossing route because he was all over the WR with great coverage but a FSU LB was in the same area and ruined Robinson’s chance at the pick

- I still think his combination of mediocre size/speed keeps him out of the 1st round

vs Miami 2009

Highlights: 3 Lowlights: 3

Game Analysis: Robinson was not tested much against Miami but when he was, he struggled against Miami’s big WR #85. #85 used his frame to easily catch a 15 yard pass against him early in the game, and then late in the game, Robinson took a bad angle and whiffed on an attempted tackle of #85. Still, he is a fluid athlete that I look forward to watching this season.

CB Syd’Quan Thompson Scouting Report

April 17, 2010 By: DraftParty Category: College Football

Syd’Quan Thompson 5′9 186 Cal Senior

vs. Oregon 2009

Highlights: 3  Lowlights: 3

Game Analysis: Thompson was a beast at tackling in the run game for the most part, but he did have a few missed tackles on the RB (something that he did not have in previous weeks). He only blew one coverage and continues to have a solid senior season that could possibly have him on the fringe of the first round.

vs Minnesota 2009

Highlights: 7  Lowlights: 1

Game Analysis: Really physical corner with nice ball skills. Thompson broke up running plays all day by flying in from the edge. He is not afraid to take on a FB, which is impressive considering he is not very big. He did get beat once by a bigger WR but the safety did not help him. A leaping WR could take advantage of his height in the NFL, but I love everything else about him.

vs Maryland 2009

Highlights: 4 Lowlights: 1

Game Analysis: Thompson is a fluid athlete but slightly undersized and lacking elite speed. He is not overly physical and will struggle fighting off blocks of bigger WRs but his instincts are top notch. He knows when to drive on the WR and break up the pass and he did just that against Maryland every time that he was tested (which was only 4 times). The one lowlight I put on here was when he was blocked by a big WR on a run play and he failed to make the play and the Maryland RB was able to run in for a TD.

CB Joe Haden Scouting Report

April 17, 2010 By: DraftParty Category: College Football

Joe Haden 5′11 193 Florida Junior

vs. LSU 2009

Highlights: 6  Lowlights: 1

Game Analysis:

- Fantastic man-to-man CB/ in great position for an interception late in the 1st half

- Willing to hit in run support/ did however miss one tackle

-All around corner that can play both the run and pass/ should be the 1st CB drafted

vs. Kentucky 2009

Highlights: 5  Lowlights: 0

Game Analysis: Haden had a solid game against Kentucky. He started the game with a great blitz from CB on which he was able to sack the QB. He showed impressive speed blanketing a WR on a deep pass down the left sideline that fell incomplete. He was physical and willing to hit all day in run defense. Haden is one of the best players on an incredible Gator defense.

vs Tennessee 2009

Highlights: 4  Lowlights: 1

Game Analysis: Great athlete at corner. He had a great game tackling against Tennessee and had an impressive pick on which he baited the QB to throw the ball and then used his great recovery speed to pick off the pass. Haden has all the tools to be a first round prospect.

LB Rolando McClain Scouting Report

April 17, 2010 By: DraftParty Category: College Football

Rolando McClain 6′3 254 Alabama Junior

vs Ole Miss 2009

Highlights: 5  Lowlights: 1

Game Analysis:

- A true thumper at ILB with ideal size, fantastic straight line speed, and fiery passion for the game

- Looks like a dominant 3-4 ILB, especially against the run

- Played well in coverage all game/ was in position for an interception off a deflection in the middle of the field

vs Virginia Tech 2009

Highlights: 6 Lowlights: 2

Game Analysis: Here is a very tenacious, passionate player but he does have a few flaws. He does not have elite speed for a LB and it showed when he was too slow on a blitz in the 1st quarter. He also lost his temper halfway through the game and was flagged 15 yards for a personal foul penalty. Still, he looked solid against the run and is a beast when he takes on blocks. I still do not have him as a first round pick however.
