 Off-season Outlook

The offensive line was inconsistent last year and the same can be said about their secondary. Both of those areas can be addressed in the first round because San Francisco has two picks, courtesy of a draft day trade with Carolina last year. A pass rusher at OLB could be the pick here because the value should be tremendous. They could also consider a QB if one of the top 2 guys falls, but will likely stick with the improving Alex Smith.

  1. The Niners OL needs are OT and OG. Their 2nd number one for tackle like Williams and guard at 2nd/3rd round like Pouncey or Asamoah. Niners first choice should be for offensive playmaker like Bryant WR/Spiller RB. The Niners starting WRs and reserve WRs combined together scored 7 TDs. The Colts rookie Collie scored 7 TDs as a slot receiver and he was just 3rd on the team for TD receptions. With Crabtree, Bryant, and Morgan they would add more firepower to along with Davis.

  2. Sims will not start at LT ahead of Staley. Staley will stay on the left side unless a top flight OT prospect is taken. Sims started at LT only while Staley was out with injury. Therefore, I would have the need as OT, as opposed to LT.

The 49ers GM is known for taking Best Player Available, which could be a wildcard at this point. I suspect that CJ Spiller will be high on the 49ers draft board as a change of pace back, PR/KR , slot rec. and Gore eventual replacement. The 49ers 3rd biggest need is a speedy offensive weapon.

The 49ers have very few pass rushing threats, but with the possible emmergence of Ahmad Brooks at the end of the season, I see the OLB position as a little less of a need at this point.

I really enjoyed the read, and will check back more often as the offseason starts rolling.
