 Off-season Outlook

The Cardinals have built a strong core of players over the years and are only thin in a couple areas. They could use an upgrade at LT or CB, or they can bolster their air attack by adding a pass catching TE. Keep in mind that Kurt Warner was knocked around a bit this year and may walk away at the end of the season. Matt Leinart has shown nothing to lead us to believe that he can be a franchise signal caller, so Arizona could also look at a QB in the latter half of round one.

Potential pick:

1st Round, pick #21-32

Jermaine Gresham    TE    Oklahoma

Bryan Bulaga               LT    Iowa

  1. also we will we needing a FS once rolle leaves because rashad johson has been stuggling…. So our needs our FS ILB TE LT OLB DT
TE i dont really think we need because patrick or spach will step up
So we have FS ILB LT OLB DT
OLB isnt a big need because we will have haggans, davis, brown, baggs, and washington/highsmith so we will be fine their
Which narrows down our needs to FS ILB LT DT
i heard that levi brown will be moving to LT and Herman Johnson will play RT so LT will not be needed if anything we need a G to replace wells or luiti
so we have FS ILB DT
ILB if dansby leaves is a definte need if dansby stays which is a big if then we still should draft one late
so we still have FS ILB DT
DT is a need because we need a DT tht needs to be doubled by a C and a G.
I think we will draft dan williams DT in the first round
Second round i hope we can grab Daryl washington ILB
and third a coverage FS to compete will rashad johnson 4 the starting job

  2. Mike Ellingboe says:

Decent write-up, but you may be missing our most pressing need at ILB. Our starters, Gerald Hayes and Karlos Dansby, are great but the drop-off when either is out (i.e. – Saints game that Hayes missed) is dramatic. Combine that with the very real possibility that Dansby’s price tag in free agency will be too high to meet and we could have a huge hole in the middle of our 3-4. Brandon Spikes is probably the one guy who would realistically be available at #26 that could step in and play right away. If Dansby resigns (big if) and if Tennessee NT Dan Williams slips look for him to be the pick (our current NT’s are serviceable, but not great). If both Spikes and Williams are off the board I’m guessing at that point we look to a 3-4 DE/OLB that converts to an OLB in the pro game. A lot of potential choices there, but I’m guessing Brandon Graham’s similarity to LaMarr Woodley hasn’t gone unnoticed by our Pittsburgh transplants. Granted, we addressed the position twice in last year’s draft but our second round pick, Cody Brown, was hurt all season and our sixth round pick, Will Davis, showed promise but our starters at OLB are old (Haggans and Okeafor) and Bertrand Berry just retired.

In spite of what may be written, I wouldn’t expect the Cards to address any offensive needs until the middle rounds (possibly a TE and QB). The OL is much better and deeper than it is given credit for, I wouldn’t look for it to be addressed at all.
